IMDA Awards 2015: 2 Gold awards for Karydakis Printing House

Stephanos Karydakis SA has ben awarded for two Gold prices at the IMDA Awards 2015 at a ceremony that took place during the 2015 IMDA Symposium at the 28th of October in Chicago.

The In-Mold Decorating Association is an organization of molders, printers, material suppliers and equipment manufacturers committed to the development and growth of in-mold decorating products, technologies and markets.

The leaders of the IML-market worldwide took part at the most important contest of the In Mold Labeling and Decoration.

Prototype Packaging award

Stephanos Karydakis SA participated for the first time in just two out of the 8 categories of the awards, and won in both of them the Gold.

The first award was for the category “Prototype Packaging”, a packaging that is not yet in the market. As Ron Schultz, the general director of IMDA mentioned: “The Prototype award is a new category and appears in the contest for the first time. Since it is a packaging that is not yet in the market, it shows the future. Many very interesting and innovative entries from the whole planet have made this category extremely competitive”. Stephanos Karydakis SA participated in this category with the prototype-packaging “Fresh”, for the own-brand-container of Jokey Plastics. This prototype package has the first multi-interactive label in the market using several  technologies. It has thermo-chromic ink in printed areas, which changes color reversibly over the temperature range of -10 and +69°C (14 and 149°F). The design of the label incorporates the invisible digital watermarking technology. The consumer can scan the packaging at any point on the label with a custom designed smart phone app, and is immediately redirected to a specific internet page without the need of a QR-code. Finally, this label has spot glossy and matte lacquers.

Stephanos Karydakis SA congratulates Jokey Plastics Germany for the brilliant idea to create a complete line of own-labels with all the innovations that exist right now in the world of IML.

Thin wall Packaging award

The second gold award was for the category “Thin Wall Packaging”. The thin wall issue is major worldwide and especially in the U.S. Every company speaks about less waste and energy. Thin wall packagings are there to give an answer to this question.

The company participated in this category with an innovative “Back-printed-Label”-packaging for the Olympus Yogurt of the molder Kotronis Plastics Greece. The BackPrint technology offers a totally scratch-free label surface and makes perfect sense for pasteurization, autoclave procedures, and dish washer resistance as well as direct lip contact. At the same time the package has the highest possible gloss without the use of UV lacquers, which are not compatible with food products.

Stephanos Karydakis SA wants to thank the progressive injection molding company Kotronis Plastics for the contribution of the realization of such an innovative packaging.
